CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

 

PMPL strives towards maintaining a harmonious balance between environment & mining by complying with all applicable laws & regulations. It encourages participation of its employees in technical forums and discussions to create awareness about regulations & social responsibility.

The company has undertaken large afforestation around the mines & has taken effective measures to control & monitor pollution levels. ‘Rainwater’ harvesting & ‘recycling’ of water after treatment for use by workers living in the mining areas are steps towards conservation of water and its useful management.

The company’s employees are its most valuable asset & their ‘social welfare’ is of prime importance. The company provides accommodation and transportation to all its employees. Preventive primary health assistance is made available to all employees & their families. The company also conducts regular literacy campaigns & vocational training in the mining region as an effort towards effective education.

The company has further undertaken some specific social projects to make an effective contribution in its commitment towards its CSR activity.

Scholarship Program: B. D. Patnaik Charitable Trust, 1990
B. D. Patnaik Charitable Trust was established in 1990, under the aegis of PMPL with an objective to fund the higher education of meritorious students from the poorer sections of the district. The trust provides scholarships to students of Engineering & Medicine. The company is proud that there are more than a 100 Engineering & Medical graduates from various leading institutions of the state who have availed the scholarship program of the trust.

Community Healthcare Project: Haldhar Patnaik Memorial, 2010
A free dispensary project for the down trodden is being set-up as a memorial of Late Haldhar Patnaik, the father of the founder of the company, Late Bansidhar Patnaik.

The abandoned premises of Late Haldhar Patnaik at Gadasahi, in the old town neighborhood of Keonjhargarh has been restored to serve as the ‘dispensary’, and it is proposed to have a full time medical practitioner available for basic treatment at free of cost.

Such a facility will be a step towards the company’s commitment to towards community health and healthcare infrastructure.


Education Project: Rabindra Vidya Niketan, 2011
Rabindra Vidya Niketan is a High school project under implementation in Keonjhargarh, the district head-quarter, to fulfill the long felt need of a good day-cum-residential school in the region.

The school is dedicated to Late Rabindra Nath Patnaik, founder member of the company and a philanthropist who was highly respected by the citizens of Keonjhargarh. It was his dream & vision that for such a project in the district of Keonjhar.

The aim of the school will be to provide a sound holistic educational experience comprising of good quality academic delivery, physical and mental development exercises in a modern scientifically designed campus.

The proposed school will be based on a non-profit but a long-term self-sustainable model taking into account all possible factors which will be required to establish a complete education facility of the highest standard.

The school is scheduled to be commissioned in March, 2011.

1. Girl's Hostel for Orissa School of Mining & Engineering.
2. ICU in District Head Quarter Hospital
3. Free Medical Camps and distribution of medicines to periphery villagers of Sponge Iron Plant
4. Construction of Class Rooms in Palasa School
5. Ambulance Facility to periphery villagers of Mines
